Hope Woodwork Placement Support Worker (part time)

Kingdom Way Trust is seeking a Placement Support Worker (PSW) for the Hope Woodwork project to develop the quality of service offered to Placements, enabling them to reach their full potential and become ‘work ready’. The PSW will ensure intentional support through accompanying Placements in their progress towards employment. They will liaise closely with agencies referring into our service and with complementary training and other service providers.

Hope Woodwork (HWW) is a project of Kingdom Way Trust (KWT) and exists to serve unemployed people over 18 who want to get into paid employment, and people in recovery who need daily activity and ultimately want to work. We aim to provide a service which reflects the real world of work but which is tailored to individual needs.

Areas of responsibility will include:

  • Liaising with referral agencies

  • Interviewing potential Placements

  • Providing induction and holding regular reviews with Placements

  • Matching Placements with our volunteer mentors

  • Referring Placements to complementary training and other service providers

  • Liaising with potential employers

  • Maintaining good records and providing written reports of progress and outcomes

  • Representing the project at meetings and events as required.

Remuneration: £10,000 per annum for 17.5 hours per week, preferably 9.30am to 1pm Monday to Friday although hours are negotiable between 16 and 20 hours. Initial 1 year contract, with the possibility of extension. Candidates should be able to demonstrate relevant skills, qualities and experience. References will be taken.

As this is a key position in the project the successful candidate must be in agreement with the ethos (see the Kingdom Way Trust Charter here) and statement of beliefs of Kingdom Way Trust which can be found at the end of the job application form.

Closing date for applications: 7th May 2018 with interviews expected to be shortly after.

Volunteering at The Bridge

The Bridge is looking for Volunteers on a variety of different levels. Our biggest need is befrienders. This can happen in a variety of ways:

  • A regular “buddy” or point of contact from your social group to invite and accompany a resident of The Bridge into your activities;

  • Trips to the cinema or similar activities, one-on-one or as part of a group;

  • “Cook-ins” at The Bridge – We would like to regularly eat and chat with others, either we cook together or you can come in and cook for us. This could be couples, families, groups, anyone who can come and offer a potential friendship and a link into the wider community;

  • Music nights at The Bridge – We would like to offer something to our local community too! Maybe we will host an evening’s entertainment. Your contribution would be to come and join in!

  • Providing a safe space…free of alcohol/drugs and full of good positive influence;

  • Fitness fanatics on all levels, from strolling hill walkers to muscle builders, to inspire a healthy lifestyle and develop an awareness for healthy eating.

  • We meet regularly in the week to discuss things and inspire one another spiritually. You too may have a story to share or a devotion to lead.

  • Do you play music? Are you an artist, photographer or writer? Are you a dab hand at gardening or DIY? Would you be willing to share your skills?

  • ON CALL – We have limited paid staff at The Bridge. This limits how available we can be for our residents. Would you be willing to be part of an “out of hours” on call phone rota? Training will be given.

    The Small Print!

    As you can see, we have a range of opportunities for volunteers, and we know each individual has unique skills and experience to bring to us.

    However, depending on the level of involvement, for safeguarding reasons, there are some basic requirements we’re looking for. These include:

    • A heart for the vulnerable, poor and needy and a willingness to be challenged and changed;

    • Experience in working face to face with people;

    • Some knowledge and sensitivity to issues relating to homelessness, including mental health issues,drug and alcohol abuse (training / awareness can be provided);

    • Ability to respond calmly but quickly in an emergency;

    • Willingness to follow instructions and work as part of a team;

    • A DBS Check.

    We will ensure that volunteers will develop a familiarity and ability to work within Kingdom Way Trust policies and guidelines.

  • Please register your interest by clicking on the ‘Volunteer with us’ button to the right or bottom of this page. Thanks.
