Hope Woodwork Trainer
Could you offer a day a week, or even a day a fortnight, as a woodwork trainer with our Hope Woodwork project? Due to increased demand for our services, we are urgently seeking new volunteers. Hope Woodwork is based in Finmere Road, Eastbourne, and provides volunteering opportunities and training for people who have been unemployed for some time and need support in building confidence and gaining skills to get back into the workplace. In our workshop we produce a range of products, all made from recycled wood. Hope Woodwork would love to hear from you if you have practical skills, particularly carpentry skills, and could offer some time to be part of our team of volunteer trainers. Please contact Hope Woodwork via the contact page. Thanks.
Volunteering at The Bridge
The Bridge is looking for Volunteers on a variety of different levels. Our biggest need is befrienders. This can happen in a variety of ways:
A regular “buddy” or point of contact from your social group to invite and accompany a resident of The Bridge into your activities;
Trips to the cinema or similar activities, one-on-one or as part of a group;
“Cook-ins” at The Bridge – We would like to regularly eat and chat with others, either we cook together or you can come in and cook for us. This could be couples, families, groups, anyone who can come and offer a potential friendship and a link into the wider community;
Music nights at The Bridge – We would like to offer something to our local community too! Maybe we will host an evening’s entertainment. Your contribution would be to come and join in!
Providing a safe space…free of alcohol/drugs and full of good positive influence;
Fitness fanatics on all levels, from strolling hill walkers to muscle builders, to inspire a healthy lifestyle and develop an awareness for healthy eating.
We meet regularly in the week to discuss things and inspire one another spiritually. You too may have a story to share or a devotion to lead.
Do you play music? Are you an artist, photographer or writer? Are you a dab hand at gardening or DIY? Would you be willing to share your skills?
ON CALL – We have limited paid staff at The Bridge. This limits how available we can be for our residents. Would you be willing to be part of an “out of hours” on call phone rota? Training will be given.
The Small Print!
As you can see, we have a range of opportunities for volunteers, and we know each individual has unique skills and experience to bring to us.
However, depending on the level of involvement, for safeguarding reasons, there are some basic requirements we’re looking for. These include:
A heart for the vulnerable, poor and needy and a willingness to be challenged and changed;
Experience in working face to face with people;
Some knowledge and sensitivity to issues relating to homelessness, including mental health issues,drug and alcohol abuse (training / awareness can be provided);
Ability to respond calmly but quickly in an emergency;
Willingness to follow instructions and work as part of a team;
A DBS Check.
We will ensure that volunteers will develop a familiarity and ability to work within Kingdom Way Trust policies and guidelines.
